Is the South City reflection not quite right? [custom textures]
Da Fish

I was looking at a replay of a recent race I was in and just happened to notice the reflection in the roof of my car. If you'll notice, it seems to be a seascape with buildings on the far shore and trees closer up. Now don't get me wrong, but I thought South City was a concrete jungle type area, and that the reflection should have been a sky as I was looking down onto the roof.

Maybe its supposed to look like that so it can make it look more like sky to the casual viewer?

I'm with pipex, and I have never had any problems with port blocking. I read in a report on their website that they were going to restrict P2P bandwidth to 30 Kbps, but I would have said it was the other way, I feel like I have better download speeds

Quote from joen :I don't want it to stop either, but it has to stop somewhere right? True there will always be stuff to add, but then the devs would be doing this until they go to retirement homes
Plus we would have people complaining that £180 is way too much money for LFS S15

:ices_rofl

Yeah I suppose folks might get a bit pissed off having to pay so much for the full thing!!

But I suppose it could nearly be like a license, pay for the bits you can affoard and build up your experience along the way

I just wonder what the devs have lined up for their next project?

Quote from jayhawk :I bought www.blackwoodcircuit.co.uk.

Oh? I hope you have big plans for it, can't wait to see whats coming

Quote from zeugnimod :The "finished" LFS will be S3.

But why do you want it to be finished? That would mean no more updates and improvements. Im happy to play a game which is already very good and will still get better in the future because it is not yet finished. I dont want that to stop.

I agree!! If you play the likes of NFS or any other generic arcade/sim racing game, you will nearly always be expected to pay for updates, usually at a premium price, but we are getting free updates, and are watching the sim evolve like a living, breathing being.

I personally don't want it to stop at S3, it would mean that the devs think that it is complete, and I would almost nearly suspect that they themselves wouldn't be 100% happy with the final product, there will always be something else that they would like to improve! But then I'm just supposing, I have no proof of that
End of season stats

Do you release the seasons full stats at the end of the season? What I mean is after each race you have the replay/stats page for each pool, and after the next race you post a new set of stats, overwriting the previous ones, I just wondered if there was a way of collecting/saving the stats, for posperities sakes only lol , just to help keep tabs on progress through the season?

Quote from JamesK :As mentioned earlier in the thread, you get kicked if your times are a lot behind the leader or the server record for that track. I don't think you get any points for it at that point.

Thats as may be, but I was doing about 1:45's and the record for that combo is 1:40, and the :57 that U4IK ST8 says about has to be completely wrong, as the nearest you can get to that in the WR's, as far as I can see, is 00:59 with a BF1, so somethings wrong?!?!?

I was on server 1a tonight, and raced 2 races, and right at the end after I crossed the line, I got booted and respectfully told to practise offline, which I found odd, as I hadn't so much as hardly seen a car, let alone hit/interfere with one, and as it was SO Town reverse I occasionally glanced the walls. Is this what the autokick feature is going to do all the time? I hope not, because its a really enjoyable set of servers, had a lot of fun close racing!!

I'm not even sure if I got my points added to my total in my license as I got kicked so fast, and I never even got a chance to save a replay!

Quote from Tweaker :No I didn't buy that domain FYI lol

It's all Madman's project mostly, I'm just telling him something that might help

Hey, no probs, I wasn't getting at you, honestly . I didn't realise he had pm'd you, sorry about the accusations, lol.

Quote from Madman_CZ :Just to clear it up, it wasn't Tweaker, I am not bothered who it was really, they can enjoy and have fun with the domain. I have thought about this project with Tweakers help and have come to slightly different conclusions and direction in which I want to take it so I don't need that domain any more

so it wont become just something interesting but something useful
mad

Thats cool, I hope you have sucsess with the project, and I look forward to seing it come to fruition

Quote from Madman_CZ :heh.. just went to see if the blackwoodcircuit.co.uk domain was still available and what do you know, ITS TAKEN! bought on 19th of march (yesterday). That is quite annoying as when this thread started it was still available...
*flushes toilet for the second time*

either that is coincidence or someone from this forum regstered it...

Hmm, sounds a bit suspiscious to me, but since you have PM'd someone I guess you know who did it? Funny how it was free until just after this thread was started, and in fact as soon as you thought about doing your site, oh well, better keep the conspiracy theory thoughts out of my head lol

Quote from russraine :This is a tougher combo than I thought, even setting a hotlap has been tough going, with nearly a 3 minute lap, it's a long time to be driving without touching the grass or the evil walls.

Ha ha, yeah I have to admit it took me a lot of laps to get a clean HLVC lap, lol, but I guess I have my banker lap in so, I suppose witha little bit more practise then I'm as ready as anyone can be for this combo, but I have to admit I am beginning to enjoy it more

Quote from Bladerunner :Just a little snippet that I heard on the news this week.
Apparently, during a debate in the House of Commons, one of our illustrious Members of Parliament commented that it should be compulsory for primary school children to start learning a foriegn language.
One of his peers then remarked:
"It might be a good idea to teach them ENGLISH first!"

Sad, but so very, very true

Ha ha ha, yeah, I heard that one too! It is so true, especially coming from a country that is supposed to be the leader of the english language (if not the propogater).

Sigh, where will this all end? And I heard that Polish is now the second most spoken language in Birmingham (And I'm not getting at poles, they have as much right to be here as I do to be in Poland under E.U. rules) but I bet that they can speak and write their own language better than some of our kids!

I'm unceasingly amazed by the number of people that write English as a foreign language here so brilliantly. I can converse with people in Spanish if they are kind and treat me like a slow person, but I wish that I could communicate with the effortless fluency that many of you do.

Yet wishing won't get me there. I suppose what I really need to do is start studying languages again and then find some poor forum to practice corresponding with.

I know what you mean. I too wish I had stuck in at school and learned to converse in another language, instead of the little titbits of words and phrases I have picked up over the years. I guess its just a situation thats endemic of the times that we live in, and there is not a lot we can do about it, I just wish that some of these people would at least try and make an effort to at least be a bit morein touch with people so that they can communicate on the same level. They are always complaining that their voice is never heard, but its kind of hard when you can't really understand what they are saying!?!?

I ran an R4 R2 combo, took to much air out of rear, made me drift. I finished 7th with a 2:46...went right back out after race and with r3/r2 and did a 2:42.....so a pit might work.

I'm glad in some ways that the hotlapping hasn't been opened up, because I fear I might not even make the cut for pool 10, IRC I think my best time was a 3:10 or some such like, so that would put me at the arse end of the grid, but points is points i suppose lmao

What? "younger people", these folks are either in school or have just left school, shouldn't they have actually learnt how to even talk english?!?!?!

I've seen people who can hardly even type a word of english do better, including the fact that they appologise for their lack of enlgish skills, but it somehow seems more legible. Don't get me wrong, I know txt speak on the good old mobile, but some of what these folks are writing is nearly unintelligable, and thats coming from a guy who barely scraped thro his English o-level (long time ago I know)

I live in a community which is very secluded, Shetland, the most northerly island in the UK, and we have a different dialect from the rest of the UK, even though we are thought of as Scots, we have norwegian heritage, but that has never stoppped me from a least trying to make an effort to type out something that is legible to the human eye!!
The English Language

Why is it that so many people come on this forum and can't string a complete sentence together, and I don't mean the normal guys n' gals that post here. The ones I mean are the folk who type out some amazing pile of sick that it usually takes you 5 minutes to even make head nor tail of it!!

Sadly 99.9% of these are people from predominately English speaking countries.

What gets to me is that I can understand posts from people who come from other countries, who are not predominately english spoken of course, better. Even if it is broken english it seems to make more sense. Is it really a sign of the times that while every other country is trying to step into line with globalisation and pretend that they are one world, and that our own decadent society is just decaying before our very eyes?

I'm sorry for the gripe and moan, its just reading the post in the general discussion about A Fake/ Liar In Lfs ! ! ! http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=21113 sort of got my back up.

I know theres not much we can do about the general quality of posts, but at least they could try a little harder just to make it a bit more legible, its bloody hard going!!!!

Quote from Bob Smith :The devs are refusing to active advertise LFS until it is "finished". Although given the current development time, it would probably make sense to do at least a little once S2 reaches final, rather than S3.

I agree, I think its nearly a missed opportunity not to promote LFS before S3 final, even if its going to happen at S2 final, God knows when that'll be. I just feel that promotion is a major thing, especially with so many people S2 licensed, it kind of makes a mockery of the fact that they don't want to advertise, yet they are willing to let tens of thousands of people buy licenses.

Why not use what you have and also the promise of what (and I can't wait for) might be to make it a success, and on top of that capitalise on what you have, and spread the word further!

I remember finding LFS S1 on the coverdisk of PC format a few years back, and I thought it was amazing then, and I read soooo much on the website about how there was going to be a S2, I bought S1, but unfortunately for me I never tried online, I guess it was before I realised what online gaming was really about. But even then it had amazing promise, as I'm sure a lot of you will already know, but even getting it onto a PC Format cover disk is a huge way of getting it known around the world, because Future publications have different versions of PC format all over the world, maximum exposure, I would think!!!

You get the feeling sometimes that there isn't a lot of promotion for LFS by the devs, it sort of seems like it runs away itself, basically spread by word of mouth and the fact that its such an enthusiastic community, but to the way that it appears to me, it seems like its just ticking along, ok the devs obviously have a lot on their hands trying to A: make the best racing sim ever, and B: pander to our needs and whims where possible!!

But maybe its something that they have in place for the future when S3 final is out, when they can afford to rest on their laurels and promote and (hopefully for them) watch the cash roll in!!!

Quote from undertech : You could have club days and race schedules posted on a central hub. But LFSworld pretty much renders all this redundant.

I know LFSWorld renders it null and void to an extent, but in a way it sort of brings things together so that if thats where you REALLY want to race, then you just look up that tracks website. In a sense it would really bring all the info for that track together in one site, with the likes of stats for length, WR's and your own PB's, but I think the main problem would be trying to get it integrated into real life, so to speak, making it more available for the layman, which in turn might (I hope) lead to more people becoming interested in LFS, just a thought really

Quote from Madman_CZ :Hmm its a shame, it would be quite nice if each track had is own page on which you could find more info. Maybe even guides on how to drive the track and some of its more tricky corners with live record updates from lfsworld...

That would be a good idea, but as ATC Quicksilver says, it would take a person who is willing to make the sacrifice. You never know it might re-ignite some interest in the devs

I notice that the banner over the start line at Blackwood has the web address www.blackwoodcircuit.com on it, but when you look up that addy, then you get a site selling circuit boards. Has that addy been used by the developers to promote LFS or has it always been a fictional addy?

Quote from csurdongulos :I don'T want to defend rFactor as I am no fan of it, but to let you know, in rFactor the BMW F1 car has a different bodywork (minor differences of course) for every single F1 round last year and you can freely select which revision you want to play with. it even has those vertical winglets, which were used at magny cours and only if you select that specification. So considering this is the 2006 BMW, until hockenheim Villeneuve was their other driver, so it is right to have him in the screenshot. it's not like the screenshot is the bmw f1.07, isn't it?

True, as I am not really an RFactor fan I didn't realise the facts, and I hang my head in shame :slap:. I just thought if Intel, as partners of BMW, were trying to take it serious about RFactor then they would want to show the latest product that they were sponsoring, but I suppose they have sponsored BMW sauber for a while now so it really shouldn't matter which car they use to show off their product sponsorship.

The thing that amuses me is that in the screenies that flash up you have good ole Jacques Villenueve's helmet on view, the man that BMW Sauber basically sacked and replaced with Robert Kubica . If they were trying to make it the best sim ever, should they not have tried to keep it current and upto date with either Kubica or Heidfeld's helmet on view, inkeeping with the current sponsorship?
